Knauskoret was established in 1975 by members from Trondhjems Kvinnelige Studentersangforening and Trondhjems Studentersangforening. It was, and still is, the only mixed choir from Studentersamfundet. The objective was to do concerts at Knaus on Studentersamfundet during UKA, but the choir quickly became active year-round. Today, the choir is the most played artist of the festival.
The uniform initially consisted of black pants and crimson shirts, until 1984, during which it was replaced by the characteristic and easily recognizable stripes.
Today, the choir consists of 21 active members, singing songs from a variety of genres, including pop, rock and jazz. Most of the repertoire is arranged by current or previous members of the choir.
